Short answer
An Ex-Proof crane or hoist is mandatory as soon as the risk assessment classifies the work area as ATEX zone 0, 1, 2 (gas) or 20, 21, 22 (dust). Equipment selection then depends on the explosion group and temperature class of the substance present.
What an ATEX zone is
An explosive atmosphere forms when a gas, vapour or combustible dust mixes with air in flammable proportions. The ATEX directive requires the operator to classify zones by how often this atmosphere is present: zone 0 or 20 permanently, zone 1 or 21 occasionally, zone 2 or 22 rarely.
Sectors concerned in Morocco
Refineries, fuel depots, chemical and pharmaceutical industry, grain silos, sugar mills, flour mills, wood and furniture plants, wastewater treatment, paint shops and mines.
What changes on the equipment
An Ex-Proof system uses certified motors and electrical equipment, adapted travel trolleys, bronze-coated hooks to avoid sparks, mechanical designs limiting heat build-up and anti-collision devices. Each component is checked for the target zone.
How to specify
Four pieces of information are needed: the zone (0/1/2 or 20/21/22), the gas or dust group (IIA, IIB, IIC; IIIA, IIIB, IIIC), the temperature class (T1 to T6) and ambient conditions. INDURA passes these to the manufacturer, who certifies the assembly.
