Racking standards, EN 15512 and load plates in Morocco

What EN 15512, EN 15620, EN 15629 and EN 15635 cover, and what a load plate must state on pallet racking.

Short answer

Pallet racking is designed to EN 15512 (structural design), manufactured to EN 15620 tolerances, specified to EN 15629 and operated to EN 15635. Each bay must carry a load plate stating the maximum load per level and per bay, the configuration and the manufacturer.

The four European standards

EN 15512 sets the structural design principles for adjustable pallet racking. EN 15620 defines manufacturing tolerances, deformations and clearances. EN 15629 covers project specification, the information the client must provide. EN 15635 covers use and maintenance: inspections, allowable damage, training.

What the load plate says

The load plate states the maximum load per level, the maximum load per bay, the height of the first level, level spacing, the manufacturer's and installer's names, the date and a notice that any change requires a new study. It must be visible from the aisle.

Inspections

EN 15635 recommends a weekly visual inspection by the warehouse manager and an inspection by a competent person at least once a year. Damage is classed green, amber or red by measured deformation; a red upright must be unloaded immediately.

In Morocco

There is no Moroccan standard specific to racking. Buyers, insurers and auditors of international groups established in Morocco refer to the EN standards. INDURA supplies installations designed and documented to these standards, with load plate and inspection report.

Frequently asked questions

Can racking without a load plate be used?

It should not be. Without a plate nobody knows the loading limit. INDURA can inspect and issue a plate for an existing installation.

How often should racking be inspected?

Weekly visual check in-house, and an annual inspection by a competent person, per EN 15635.
